Multiple Perspectives
Columbus, Hero or Villain (or maybe somewhere in between)?
After examining and analyzing a variety of resources and evidence from primary and secondary sources, the student will be exposed to multiple perspectives of this historical event. The student will conclude that over time historical perspectives of Columbus and the Native Americans have changed.
The student will understand the impact of Columbus' voyages on the eastern and western hemispheres and how they affected the following individuals and groups:
Columbus and his crew (including Christian missionaries) on the Nina, Pinta and Santa Maria
Indigenous people on the island Columbus called "la Hispaniola" and other natives of the Western Hemisphere
King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella and the people of Spain.
Other European countries (Italy, Portugal, France, etc.)
The people of Asia (China, India, East Indies, etc.)
